Thank you for your interest in enrollment for the 2012 – 2013 school year!
Excel Charter School is an open enrollment, public school—there is no test for admissions. Our acceptance for enrollment is based upon the number of available seats in each grade. To be considered for admissions, you must submit an application. Our school welcomes all students, including those with special needs and students for whom English is not their first language.
We are only accepting waitlist applications at this time. If you have any questions please contact us via email exceladmissions@explorenetwork.org or give us a call at 718-272-1824.
If the number of applications received exceeds the number of spots available, we will run a lottery at the school on April 11th at 6pm. If you do not receive an invitation to our lottery by April 9, please contact the school to confirm that we have received your application.
1. Your child will have first priority in our lottery if you live in Community School District 18 and your child is attending or is zoned to attend a failing school.*
2. Your child will have second priority in our lottery if you live outside of CSD 18 and your child attends or is zoned to attend a failing school.*
3. Your child will have third priority in our lottery if you live within CSD 18.
4. All other applicants who reside in New York State will take fourth priority.
*A failing school is defined as a public school that that has received a “D” or an “F” on the New York City Department of Education Progress Report in the 2009-2010 school year due to poor academic performance, Schools Under Registration Review (SURR) by the State Education Department, or schools subject to restructuring under the federal No Child Left Behind Act.
If you are not selected during the lottery for the incoming class, you will be placed on a waitlist in the order that your child’s name was drawn.
Waitlist applications are considered if space becomes available at the beginning of each new school year or when space becomes available at Excel Charter School. If your child is next on the waitlist we will call the phone numbers you provided on the application and a keep a record. You must call us back within 24 hours of the phone call or the space will be forfeited to the next applicant on the waitlist. Click here to download the waitlist application in English,Spanish, or Creole.
