Highlights and Lessons from the 2011 NYS Exams

Our K-8 Structure Works
Recent research has demonstrated that students in a K-8 school perform better than their peers K-5 or 6-8 schools. We see the benefits of our K-8 model in our test results:

At Empower Charter School, in their first year of testing, 3rd graders outperformed their peers in the district, city, and, in Math, the state.

At Explore Charter School, our 6th-8th grade students outperformed their peers in the district in both ELA and Math, by as much as 20 percentage points.

The 3rd to 4th grade cohort increased proficiency nearly 20% points in Math this year and this year’s 8th graders increased their proficiency by nearly 10% points in ELA this year.
